According to a Counterpoint report, shipments of foldable smartphone panels are projected to grow by 74% between 2026 and 2030, representing a compound annual growth rate of 15%. This expansion is increasingly driven by large foldable and multi-foldable devices rather than clamshell models.

The market share for large foldable panels is expected to rise from 81% to 84%, with shipments growing by 79%. Multi-foldable panels are forecast to see a 179% increase in shipments, raising their share from 2.8% to 4.5%. Conversely, clamshell panels are expected to grow by 27%, though their market share will likely decline by 4 percentage points to 12%.

By 2030, Apple is projected to increase its shipments by 167%, capturing a 42% market share. Samsung and Huawei are expected to see their market shares drop to 24% and 15% respectively, despite modest shipment growth. The combined share of these three major brands is forecast to decrease by 5 percentage points to 81%.

Data from the first half of 2026 shows a shift toward large foldable panels, with shipments in this category rising 35% year-over-year, while clamshell panel shipments fell by 62%. Although second-quarter shipments grew by 85% compared to the first quarter, they remained 16% lower than the previous year, indicating an uneven market recovery.
