The Qianli GorillaScope 6558 trinocular microscope features a zoom range of 6.5x to 58x. A common malfunction involves the loss of zoom functionality in one of the two optical channels, specifically when the left eyepiece fails to adjust magnification while the right one remains operational.

The root cause of this issue is the loosening of small set screws on the gear ring of the affected channel. This causes the ring to rotate freely around the zoom tube, leaving the tube stuck in a fixed position. The repair process involves manually synchronizing the zoom tube with the functional channel and tightening the set screws.

To perform the repair, the user must disassemble the microscope casing, which requires a Phillips screwdriver, small hex keys, and a Torx driver. It is recommended to document the disassembly process with photos, as the device contains screws of varying lengths. The use of a thread locker or a drop of lacquer is advised to prevent future loosening.

Once the mechanism is exposed, the user should verify that the gear ring is slipping by marking it and the brass zoom tube. After aligning the zoom tubes of both channels to the minimum magnification setting, the set screws are tightened. Finally, the device is reassembled, and the diopter rings on the eyepieces are adjusted for focus.
