Googlebooks launched on October 4, with five models available from manufacturers including Dell, Acer, Asus, Lenovo, and HP. The devices feature deep integration with Android phones, allowing users to cast apps, access phone files, and sync notifications directly on the laptop.
The Continue On feature enables users to transfer tasks from a phone to the laptop, though currently, this functionality is primarily limited to Google Docs and Sheets. Users can also access Android apps via a dedicated app drawer, but these applications sometimes suffer from pixelated text or sluggish performance.
Google has introduced desktop ratings for Play Store apps, categorizing them into five groups such as Made for desktop and Optimized for desktop. However, some apps labeled as optimized or compatible still lack support for standard desktop interactions like right-click menus or keyboard shortcuts.
The laptops include a Glowbar on the lid that displays the charge level and changes color when interacting with Gemini. Despite these features, the operating system currently exhibits several technical limitations, such as the inability to remap modifier keys on built-in keyboards and issues with window overlays.
