Mozilla has officially launched the distribution of Firefox 157 through its FTP server. This release marks the transition of the Nova interface from an experimental feature to the default browser design. The update introduces a softer visual style characterized by rounded elements, including tabs, menus, address bars, and sidebars, alongside a new pastel color palette.
The Nova design also brings back the compact mode and aims to reduce visual clutter in the interface. Beyond aesthetic changes, the browser now supports hardware AV1 video decoding for WebRTC calls, replacing the previous software-based approach. This enhancement follows the video decoding improvements for Arm users implemented in the previous version.
Firefox 157 includes technical refinements to HDR video playback and better synchronization for audio and video streams when using different playback speeds. Additionally, the update removes the integrated Amazon search engine. Detailed release notes are expected to follow, as the current information is based on previous beta testing and the company's roadmap.
