The Fedora Linux Asahi Remix 45 beta has been released, marking the first time the distribution provides upstream support for Apple M3, M3 Pro, and M3 Max chips. This integration ensures that the software is maintained directly by the original development community, offering greater stability compared to community-led ports.
The update introduces hardware-accelerated H.264 and VP9 decoding for all Apple Silicon processors. Additionally, the M3 series receives dedicated AV1 decoding capabilities. However, the current beta version does not yet include 3D GPU acceleration for M3-based Macs, with developers noting that support will arrive via future Mesa updates.
Existing users running Fedora Asahi Remix 43 or 44 can upgrade to the new version using the DNF system upgrade plugin. New users can install the beta by executing the installation script provided on the official project website via the macOS terminal.
