Fedora 45 Beta has officially entered public testing. The release introduces KMSCON as the default virtual terminal, shifting console functionality from the kernel to user space. This feature was originally planned for the previous version but was delayed until now.

The Anaconda installer now supports Stratis storage, allowing users to deploy systems directly onto the Stratis stack. Security enhancements include stricter ptrace permissions, mandatory package signature verification, and a new DRM Panic frontend that displays error information during kernel crashes.

Fedora Workstation 45 features the GNOME 51 desktop environment. The update also mandates reproducible builds for packages to improve supply chain transparency and security. Core components have been updated, including Go 1.27, Python 3.15, GCC 16.2, and LLVM 23.

The final release of Fedora 45 is scheduled for October 20. If testing reveals issues requiring a delay, the backup release date is set for October 27. The current beta is intended for users who wish to test the new features and report potential bugs.
