FedEx has signed a contract to purchase 2,000 electric box trucks from the American startup Harbinger. The deal is valued at over $300 million and represents one of the largest binding orders for medium and heavy-duty electric vehicles to date.

The company plans to fully electrify its fleet by 2040. The new Class 5 and 6 trucks are designed for a 20-year service life. Harbinger estimates that each vehicle will reduce fuel costs by approximately $20,000 annually compared to diesel models.

Over the projected 20-year lifespan of the fleet, FedEx expects to achieve $800 million in total fuel savings. Additionally, the transition to these electric trucks is projected to prevent more than 1.7 million tons of CO2 emissions.
