The Chinese state-owned corporation FAW unveiled its TL.X concept truck at the IAA Transportation exhibition in Hanover. The vehicle represents the company's vision for long-haul transport in 2036, drawing design inspiration from the historic Jiefang CA10, which was based on the Soviet ZIS-150.
The concept features a modular cabin designed to function as a living space. Key interior elements include a bed that retracts to the ceiling during the day, creating room for a sofa and table. Owners can customize the interior with modules such as a kitchen, a bathroom, or a projector-based home theater system.
FAW is exploring multiple powertrain options for the TL.X, including diesel, gas, plug-in hybrid, hydrogen, and fully electric systems. The truck is also equipped with an autonomous driving mode for highways, which allows the steering wheel to fold away to increase cabin space.
While the company acknowledges that certain design elements like light-colored carpeting are not practical for commercial use, it plans to integrate the modular interior and convertible living area into production models before 2036.
