An explosion occurred at the Intel Fab 28 facility in Kiryat Gat, Israel, during the transfer of nitrogen trifluoride into storage tanks. The incident resulted in two fatalities and left one person in critical condition in intensive care.

Local police are investigating the cause, with a potential equipment malfunction being considered. Emergency services, including hazardous materials specialists, contained the fire and confirmed there is no ongoing risk of chemical leaks to the surrounding area.

Fab 28 manufactures processors and components for 5G and AI systems using the Intel 7 process. The facility produces Core 13th and 14th generation chips, Xeon 5th generation processors, and I/O dies for Xeon 6.

Intel has not yet issued an official statement regarding the impact of the accident on production schedules. The company previously noted that its manufacturing capacity for the Intel 7 process remains under significant strain to meet market demand.
