Every Electric, a startup formerly known as Standard Potential Co., provides residential batteries to New York City households. The program allows users to power window air conditioners during peak demand, participating in a virtual power plant model alongside utility provider Con Edison.

Participants receive Bluetti Elite 200 V2 lithium iron phosphate batteries, which offer 2 kilowatt-hours of storage. The company charges a $30 deposit per unit, which is refundable upon return, or customers can purchase the batteries outright for $650.

The system connects to home Wi-Fi and is managed remotely to charge during off-peak hours. Users can earn approximately $150 annually per air conditioner through the Con Edison Smart Usage Rewards program, while the batteries also serve as backup power for other appliances.

The startup launched its first test in 2025 with 100 batteries across 65 households. By 2026, the program scaled to 2,000 batteries across 1,000 households, totaling 4 megawatt-hours of storage. The company aims to deploy over 10,000 batteries by 2027.

While the program has seen high demand with a waitlist of over 15,000 requests, technical challenges remain, such as occasional circuit breaker trips in older buildings. The team addresses these issues through ongoing remote firmware updates to optimize battery performance.
