The Ethereum network is preparing for the Glamsterdam hard fork, which aims to increase the block gas limit from approximately 60 million to 200 million. This upgrade is part of the Surge phase in the Ethereum roadmap, focusing on enhancing the capacity of the base layer.

The update introduces EIP-7732, which implements enshrined proposer-builder separation (ePBS) to reduce reliance on third-party MEV relays. Additionally, EIP-7928 introduces block-level access lists (BALs) to enable safer parallel transaction execution.

These technical changes, combined with adjustments to gas pricing models, are projected to reduce transaction fees by approximately 78.6%. The upgrade consists of two components: Gloas for consensus and Amsterdam for execution.

A public testnet deployment on the Sepolia network is tentatively scheduled for October 6, 2026, at 13:53 UTC. This follows successful private testing on Devnet-11. Developers aim for a mainnet launch in Q4 2026, pending the stability of the testnet environment.
