The Ethereum Foundation announced that the upcoming Glamsterdam network upgrade is scheduled for activation on the Sepolia testnet on October 6. Node operators are required to update their execution-layer and consensus-layer clients prior to this deployment.
The upgrade introduces enshrined proposer-builder separation, which integrates the handoff between block builders and validators directly into the protocol. This change aims to decrease the network's dependence on external middleware solutions.
Glamsterdam will also implement block-level access lists to track account and storage usage per block. Additionally, the update modifies gas pricing to more accurately reflect data creation and access costs, which may impact contracts using fixed gas stipends.
While the Sepolia date is set, developers have not yet determined the rollout schedule for the Hoodi testnet or the mainnet. Following Glamsterdam, the team is targeting 2027 for the Hegotá upgrade, which may be the final standard fork before shifting to new cryptographic and consensus methods.
