The Ethereum Sepolia testnet successfully activated the Glamsterdam upgrade on October 6, 2026, at 13:53:36 UTC. The fork occurred at epoch 353,024, introducing significant changes to both the execution and consensus layers of the network.
A central component of the update is the implementation of enshrined proposer-builder separation (ePBS), as defined in EIP-7732. This change integrates the separation of block building and proposing directly into the protocol, rather than relying on external software.
The upgrade also introduces block-level access lists and adjustments to gas pricing for specific operations. These modifications aim to improve how nodes process state data and ensure that transaction fees more accurately reflect the computational work required.
Validators on the Sepolia testnet now have the option to increase the gas limit from approximately 60 million to 200 million. This opt-in feature allows developers to monitor network performance and validator behavior under increased block capacity.
While the testnet is currently running these features, no date has been set for the mainnet activation of Glamsterdam. Developers have not yet finalized the gas limit parameters for the main Ethereum network, and no immediate changes are planned.
