London-based venture capital firm Hoxton Ventures is co-leading a $4 million seed funding round for Eterna Regeneratives. The investment round is also supported by The Venture Collective. Eterna Regeneratives, a startup founded in 2024, operates as a spinout from King's College London.
The company specializes in a biomaterials regeneration platform with a primary focus on bone and enamel repair. Its core technology involves using keratin, a protein extracted from sheep's wool or human hair, to create a protective mineral coating on teeth. This layer mimics natural enamel when it interacts with minerals found in saliva.
The startup aims to develop this technology into commercial products, such as gels or toothpaste, intended to prevent tooth decay. According to the company, this method offers superior protection compared to traditional fluoride treatments. Research indicates that tooth decay affects approximately 90 percent of adults aged 20 to 64 and nearly 46 percent of children.
