Epic Games has filed a new application for the Megaverse trademark in Europe. The company previously attempted to register the name in 2022, but the effort failed after a legal challenge from Megaverse Ltd. The court ruled that the prefix Epic Games was insufficient to distinguish the brand from the existing trademark.
The new filing covers classes 9, 38, 41, and 42, which overlap with the services protected by Megaverse Ltd. The previous application included classes 9, 35, 38, 41, 42, and 45. Legal experts suggest that the current application may face similar opposition from the existing trademark holder, as the registration remains active.
While the European application is underway, Epic Games maintains an active registration for the Epic Games Megaverse trademark with the United States Patent and Trademark Office. There are currently no records of a new application for the standalone Megaverse name in the United States, indicating that the current legal focus remains on the European market.
