Enercity and Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles launched a V2G pilot project in Hanover. The trial involves twelve VW ID. Buzz vehicles from Enercity's service fleet and twelve charging stations networked to feed electricity back into the public grid.

The project has transitioned from shadow trading to actual market operations. Enercity reported the first successful trading results this summer, with the fleet acting as a virtual energy storage system in a B2B setting. The initiative has already generated revenue in the low three-digit range.

The combined capacity of the twelve vehicles provides more than 0.1 megawatts, which meets the minimum size required for energy trading. The system uses digital control and aggregation to market mobile storage similarly to stationary storage.

To scale the technology, over 700 grid operators must adapt their billing systems, and metering point operators must provide suitable meters. The project is supported by the 'Coalition of the Willing on Bidirectional Charging', which includes policymakers, automotive companies, and energy providers.
