The Ethereum Economic Zone (EEZ) project has successfully conducted an atomic transaction between the Ethereum mainnet and a layer-2 network. Contributor Eduardo Antuña Díez reported the test, which involved a cross-chain call transferring 0.001 ETH alongside a state update for a rollup.

Atomic transactions ensure that linked actions across different networks either succeed entirely or are fully reversed in case of failure. This mechanism is designed to allow rollups to interact directly with the Ethereum mainnet and each other without the need for traditional bridges.

The EEZ framework aims to address the fragmentation of liquidity and applications currently spread across various L2 networks. By enabling synchronous composability, the project seeks to eliminate the necessity for protocols to maintain separate deployments on different layers.

The demonstration has been described by industry participants, including Hydration co-founder Jakub Gregus, as a significant milestone for the Ethereum ecosystem. The technology is expected to provide direct benefits by unifying liquidity across the network.
