Easy Disk Checker 6.0.0 has introduced a new module for working with faulty SSDs. The tool is a free, open-source Win64 utility developed by Artem Makarov, a leading engineer at the Hardmaster data recovery laboratory.

The software uses a simplified approach to recover files from malfunctioning drives. It automatically reads service data, patches the microcode to fix the failure—specifically by hardcoding the boot status and forcing approval of native PrIT/L2P/FTL—and then writes the patch to gain standard access to files.

The utility's built-in explorer allows users to copy information from the faulty disk to a host machine. Currently, the tool supports Phison microcontrollers, starting with a successful implementation on a faulty Foxline SSD.

Full functionality, including register monitoring and hardware/software resets, requires specialized controllers with software-powered power management that isolate the disk from Windows. As a compromise, a USB-SATA adapter without vendor-command filters, such as the JMS578 bridge, can be used.
