OpenAI introduced its new agent, Dots, during the DevDay event on September 29. The system operates on dedicated cloud computing resources, allowing users to interact with agents via text or voice even when their primary devices are inactive. Dots integrates with over 4,000 applications through ChatGPT plugins, enabling tasks ranging from scheduling to complex administrative workflows.
Early testers report that Dots can manage email, filter Slack messages, and handle office paperwork. One user noted that an agent named Boo successfully flagged scheduling conflicts and managed communications. Another tester estimated that the tool completed approximately two hours of administrative work in 15 minutes. However, users also encountered technical issues, including permission errors and missing iMessage support.
The competitive landscape includes Meta’s Muse and the Grok Bot from SpaceXAI. While some testers find Dots more effective for work-related tasks, others prefer Grok Bot for personal assistance. Additionally, the domain Dot.com currently redirects to the Grok Bot download page, a record that was last updated on July 28. OpenAI is currently rolling out the service to ChatGPT Pro and Business Premium subscribers.
