E Ink has unveiled its next-generation color electronic paper display, Kaleido 4. The new technology features a 50% increase in contrast and a twofold improvement in color gamut compared to the previous version. Additionally, the screen's white reflectance has been enhanced by 15%.
The display utilizes an Oxide TFT backplane and updated control algorithms, enabling video playback at up to 18 frames per second. E Ink has also redesigned the color filter and front lighting system to reduce image graininess and improve color naturalness.
The first device to feature the new screen is the second-generation Hanvon M10C tablet, designed for document reading and note-taking. The device includes a T2000 controller, which increases page-turning and scrolling speeds by 27% over the previous model.
The Hanvon M10C tablet features an anti-glare micro-etched glass screen and a battery-free stylus that supports 8192 pressure levels. Sales are scheduled to begin in China in early December, though pricing details have not yet been disclosed.
