Drift Foundation has launched the DFX recovery token for users affected by the April 1, 2026, security breach on the Solana-based protocol. The exploit resulted in the loss of approximately $295.4 million. Victims can claim one DFX token for every $1 of verified loss, calculated based on oracle prices at the time of the incident.
The claim period is open until January 1, 2028, after which any unclaimed DFX tokens will be burned. DFX is a transferable SPL token on the Solana network, distinct from the protocol's governance token, DRIFT. Holders of DFX gain a claim on a dedicated recovery pool designed to compensate for the losses.
The recovery pool currently holds approximately $3.8 million in protocol assets. Additional funding sources include $9.2 million in frozen assets identified by late September 2026, anticipated support of up to $127.5 million from Tether, and revenue generated from the exchange following its relaunch.
The foundation has also implemented a 10% bounty program for recovered assets in partnership with Bybit. The breach, which led to a temporary halt in operations, was attributed to a group linked to North Korea that utilized social engineering and a nonce attack against the protocol's multi-signature setup.
