Doug Field, a former executive at Tesla and Ford, has been appointed president of Mind Robotics. The startup was spun out of Rivian last year by CEO RJ Scaringe. Field will oversee product development, engineering, and operations alongside Scaringe.

Mind Robotics has secured over $1 billion in funding in less than a year. The company initially raised $115 million in a seed round led by Eclipse, which was disclosed in Rivian’s Q3 2025 earnings report.

The startup focuses on developing foundation models and specialized robot hardware for manufacturing. Rivian serves as both a major shareholder and the launch customer, providing access to its production facilities for data collection and robot deployment.

Rivian is currently ramping up production of the R2 model at its plant in Normal, Illinois. In Q3, the company delivered 19 248 vehicles.
