A total of 600 Bitcoin, valued at approximately $48 million, was transferred from 12 long-dormant addresses on September 5, 2026. These coins originated from mining rewards earned in March 2010, a period when the pseudonymous creator of Bitcoin, Satoshi Nakamoto, was still active in the project.

The blockchain tracking platform Whale Alert identified that the funds were moved after 16 years of inactivity. According to their research, none of the 12 blocks associated with these rewards can be linked to Satoshi Nakamoto. The platform noted that one of the addresses performed a test transaction before the main transfer.

The mining rewards from 2010 were based on a block subsidy of 50 BTC. Since that time, the subsidy has undergone four halvings, with the most recent occurring in April 2024, reducing the reward to 3.125 BTC per block. Another analytics firm, Lookonchain, also tracked the movement of 350 BTC from seven of these wallets.
