OpenAI recently introduced a new product named Dots, which functions as an always-on AI agent featuring a distinct avatar. Shortly after the announcement, observers noted that the domain dot.com now redirects users directly to the download page for the Grok chatbot application developed by xAI.

Data from the Whois domain registry indicates that the dot.com domain underwent a transfer in July. While the exact reasoning behind the acquisition remains unconfirmed, the timing has sparked significant online discussion regarding a potential connection to the launch of the OpenAI product.

The xAI company does not currently hold ownership of similar domains such as bot.com or vot.com. Meanwhile, the domain dots.com, which aligns more closely with the name of the new OpenAI agent, is currently registered to a company that is no longer in operation.
