The DogeOS testnet, developed by the MyDoge wallet team, launched on September 30. This layer-2 network functions as a zero-knowledge rollup, supporting the Ethereum Virtual Machine to allow developers to port existing applications. The platform utilizes DOGE for smart contract execution fees, expanding the token's utility beyond simple payments.

Early projects building on the testnet include the liquidity engine Barkswap, the perpetual exchange Derps, and the prediction market aggregator Snag. Despite the launch, the price of DOGE showed minimal movement and remained below its late-September peak. Analysts note that testnet tokens are currently sourced from a faucet and lack real market value.

Timothy Stebbing, a director of the Dogecoin Foundation, views the network as a potential gateway for new startups. While the official Dogecoin account described the launch as a significant milestone, the project documentation does not specify a date for the mainnet release. Future price impact will depend on actual adoption and usage metrics.

Market data indicates that Dogecoin ETFs recorded high weekly inflows in late September. However, the ecosystem faces uncertainty as Bitwise moves to close its Dogecoin ETF. Observers also point to the decline in usage of Shibarium, the layer-2 network for Shiba Inu, as a cautionary example for new scaling solutions.
