Dogecoin experienced a significant rally on September 21, with its price climbing by as much as 15% to reach $0.105. This marks the highest valuation for the asset in several months. The surge occurred alongside a broader market uptrend driven by Bitcoin exceeding $85,000.
Market activity saw substantial liquidations of short positions. Across the crypto derivatives sector, over $1 billion in shorts were liquidated, with DOGE-specific positions accounting for $12.66 million. Concurrently, open interest in DOGE futures rose by more than 16%, reaching approximately $1.49 billion.
Whale activity played a notable role in the price movement, with large wallets accumulating between 240 million and 360 million DOGE tokens in the days preceding the rally. Technical analysts noted a cup-and-handle chart pattern, which is often interpreted as a signal for continued bullish momentum.
Spot DOGE ETFs recorded their highest daily inflows since January 2026, reaching $909,650 on September 21. Unlike previous market movements for the token, this specific rally was not linked to public endorsements or social media activity from Elon Musk, but rather to technical patterns and macro market factors.
