Dodge is reversing its strategy for the Charger lineup by reintroducing a V8 engine. The company is currently developing a new version of the vehicle equipped with a 6.2-liter supercharged engine, which is expected to debut as a 2028 model toward the end of 2027.

The manufacturer plans to produce approximately 12 000 units of the Hellcat model annually. This decision follows a period of low sales for the electric Charger Daytona, which saw only 767 units sold during the first nine months of 2026.

The upcoming Charger Hellcat will feature rear-wheel drive and is projected to deliver over 700 horsepower. Visual updates for the new model are expected to include a large hood scoop and potentially flared fenders to distinguish it from the current Charger variants.

The 6.2-liter V8 engine remains in use by the brand in other vehicles, such as the Ram 1500 SRT TRX and the Rumble Bee SRT. The latter model is equipped with a 777-horsepower version of this powertrain.
