Disney is preparing for a new round of layoffs that could affect thousands of employees. Managers have been instructed to identify annual cost savings of 20% within their divisions. CEO Josh D’Amaro intends to reinvest a portion of these savings into technology, parks, cruises, and content production.

The company previously reduced its workforce throughout 2026, including 1,000 positions in April, several hundred in July, and additional cuts in human resources and technology in September. By the end of fiscal 2025, Disney reported a total headcount of approximately 231,000 employees.

These measures are designed to help the company achieve its goal of double-digit growth in adjusted earnings per share for fiscal 2027. The company faces ongoing financial pressure from a weaker box office, increased competition in streaming, and slowing attendance at international parks.

Disney stock closed at $113.11 on November 2, leaving it roughly 0.58% below its starting level for the year. Investors are now awaiting the fiscal fourth-quarter earnings report, scheduled for November 17, where analysts anticipate earnings of $1.68 per share.
