Discord has officially relaunched its age verification system, moving away from the previously mandatory requirement for video selfies or government-issued IDs. The platform now utilizes a tiered approach, categorizing users into three groups: adults, teenagers, and unconfirmed accounts, based on account creation dates and server activity.
Users categorized as adults, aged 18 and older, will experience no changes to their access. Teenagers, aged 13 to 17, will have access to adult-oriented content restricted, while unconfirmed accounts will face similar limitations until verification is completed. New accounts will remain in the unconfirmed status until sufficient data is gathered.
To simplify the process, Discord has introduced new verification methods, including credit cards, Apple App Store accounts, Google Play accounts, and Google Wallet. These options supplement the existing ID and video selfie verification methods, allowing users to confirm their age through more accessible digital channels.
The update also implements enhanced safety measures for teenagers and unconfirmed users. Messages from non-friends will be routed to a request inbox, and users will receive alerts for friend requests from strangers without mutual connections. Additionally, sensitive content filters will automatically blur or block inappropriate images based on their location.
