Diden Robotics has introduced the DIDEN Spider, a quadruped robot designed for welding, inspection, grinding, and painting within ship hulls. The robot utilizes electromagnets in its limbs to navigate across floors, vertical walls, and ceilings made of steel.
According to the developer, these robots can accelerate shipbuilding processes by 60–70 percent. Diden Robotics is collaborating with Aidin Robotics to integrate sensor systems that monitor the force applied by robotic tools during surface treatment tasks.
The company has secured supply contracts with two South Korean shipbuilders and one European client. Initial commercial units were delivered to a Korean shipyard in December 2025, with broader commercial shipments expected to commence in 2027.
To address technical challenges, Diden Robotics is developing specialized electronics capable of operating near welding arcs. High-voltage pulses from welding previously caused communication errors and system reboots in the robot's control boards.
The company is currently expanding its product line by developing bipedal platforms for narrow spaces and a humanoid welding robot. These advancements aim to enhance competitiveness for major shipbuilders like Samsung and Hyundai.
