Deutsche Bank is currently awaiting regulatory approval to launch institutional crypto custody services in Europe. The bank expects to receive the necessary license in October under the European Union's Markets in Crypto Assets (MiCA) framework.
The initial service offering will support Bitcoin, Ether, and specific stablecoins, including Circle USDC, EURC, and AllUnity EUR. The bank intends to expand its platform to include support for tokenized financial instruments at a later stage.
The institution plans to begin operations for its first corporate and institutional clients before the end of the year. This initiative follows the bank's initial announcement of its custody plans in 2023, which were developed in partnership with Taurus.
The bank's strategy aligns with the broader adoption of the MiCA framework, which reached full enforcement on July 1. Previously, in June, the bank's digital assets division indicated interest in the stablecoin market and potential token issuance.
Other German financial institutions are also expanding their digital asset services. Landesbank Baden-Württemberg launched its custody platform in April 2024, and DZ Bank received authorization from the regulator BaFin in December 2025.
