Deribit has officially replaced its legacy Classic engine with a new matching system called Starbase. The upgrade is part of the exchange's integration with Coinbase International, aimed at enhancing overall platform performance and scalability.

The new engine demonstrates significant speed improvements, reducing median request-response latency from 4.7 ms to 76 µs, which represents a 61-fold increase in speed. Tail latency for the slowest 1% of requests improved by approximately 531 times, dropping from 124 ms to 234 µs.

Starbase is capable of processing over 100,000 orders per second with sub-millisecond matching. Recent post-launch data recorded a peak load of 23,836 requests processed in a single second.

The system introduces stricter FIFO order execution and ensures equal access for traders co-located at LD4. Additionally, Starbase supports low-latency APIs utilizing Simple Binary Encoding over TCP and UDP multicast for faster market data broadcasting.

Development of the engine included a testnet phase launched in April 2026. Following the production deployment in early July 2026, the company released comprehensive performance metrics on September 21, 2026.
