On October 3, 2026, DefiLlama tracked 558 blockchains to analyze daily transaction fee generation. The data revealed that 399 of these networks, or approximately 71%, recorded zero fees over a 24-hour period. Furthermore, 443 chains collected less than $10 during the same timeframe.
Only seven blockchains managed to exceed $100,000 in daily fees. Solana led the market as the sole network to surpass the $1 million mark, recording $1.09 million. It was followed by Tron with $922,900 and Binance Smart Chain with $793,900.
Ethereum and Bitcoin ranked fourth and fifth with $435,000 and $325,600 respectively. Base and Robinhood Chain rounded out the top seven, with the latter generating $100,900. These figures highlight a significant concentration of activity within a small group of networks.
The report suggests that fee generation serves as a concrete indicator of user engagement, distinguishing active networks from those with minimal real-world usage. While some low fees may result from specific network design choices, a total of zero fees often indicates a lack of active transactions.
