U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth disclosed holdings of Bitcoin in a Coinbase wallet as part of his 2025 annual financial filing. The assets are split into two entries, valued between $15,001 and $50,000 and between $1,001 and $15,000 respectively, totaling between $16,000 and $65,000.
The document indicates that Hegseth did not conduct any Bitcoin transactions exceeding $1,000 during the reporting period. His total disclosed assets, including cash and retirement accounts, amount to at least $3.1 million. One bank account listed in the filing is valued at more than $1 million.
Following his appointment in January 2025, Hegseth divested from several individual stocks. On February 7, he sold shares in defense contractors Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, and Honeywell, as well as KKR and Blackstone. Later in the year, he sold holdings in companies including Apple, Alphabet, Amazon, Microsoft, Oracle, and Visa, shifting his portfolio toward index funds.
The filing also details two mortgages on a personal residence, each valued between $1,000,001 and $5,000,000, with an interest rate of 8.5%. The report was signed by Hegseth in May and certified by the Office of Government Ethics on September 18.
