Munich-based DeepDrive has secured a contract to supply electric drive systems for a major global vehicle manufacturer. The series production of these systems is scheduled to commence in 2028. While the company has confirmed the deal, it has not disclosed the identity of the automaker, the specific vehicle models involved, or the projected production volumes.

The technology utilized is based on a dual-rotor radial flux architecture, where the stator is placed between two rotors. DeepDrive claims this design offers high torque density while reducing weight and costs. The system is designed for use as a central drive, a wheel hub motor, or a generator. The company has completed the validation process for this architecture.

To support its growth, DeepDrive is expanding into China, establishing a dedicated team in Shanghai to manage sales and project implementation. This office will operate as part of the company's global manufacturing and development network. The firm follows a local-for-local strategy, aiming to establish production facilities in the same regions where its clients operate.

Founded in 2021, DeepDrive counts investors such as BMW i Ventures, UVC Partners, Bayern Kapital, and Leitmotif, which includes Volkswagen as an anchor investor, among its backers. The company is currently restructuring its organization to manage the transition from technology development to large-scale series production, supported by strategic advisor Peter Hochholdinger.
