Daimler Truck has unveiled a series of long-range design concepts under its Global Design Inspiration initiative. The project, part of the company's 130 Years of Forward anniversary program, involves design teams from Mercedes-Benz Trucks, Freightliner, Setra, and BharatBenz. These studies explore potential freight and passenger transport solutions for the year 2070, though the company confirmed there are no plans to put these designs into production.
The Mercedes-Benz Trucks concept focuses on modularity and reduced material usage. In contrast, the Freightliner team developed a vision for autonomous freight involving vehicle-robot interaction for maintenance. The Setra brand proposed the Miyanoura, an airship-inspired passenger vehicle designed for comfort, while the BharatBenz team created VertiHaul, a logistics system intended for vertically stacked cities and industrial facilities.
While these concepts are exploratory, Daimler Truck continues to develop current electrified products. The company currently produces the Mercedes-Benz eActros 600, which features a battery capacity exceeding 600 kWh and offers a range of 500 km on a single charge. This vehicle is already in active use, including the transport of goods to major German festivals.
