Dacia plans to launch the electric microcar Hipster in Europe in 2027. The vehicle belongs to the L7e class, which limits its unladen mass to 450 kg, power output to 15 kW, and top speed to 90 km/h. Due to this classification, the car is expected to be exempt from EU tariffs on Chinese-made electric vehicles.
Production will take place at the Shiyan plant in China, operated by the eGT New Energy Automotive joint venture between Renault, Nissan, and Dongfeng. This facility previously produced the first generation of the Dacia Spring. The final production approval for the Hipster has been granted, and the model is expected to be unveiled next year.
The vehicle measures three metres in length, 1.53 metres in height, and 1.55 metres in width. It features four seats and a boot capacity ranging from 70 to 500 litres with the rear bench folded. Unlike the concept version, the production model will feature a side-hinged rear door instead of a split tailgate.
The manufacturer aims to minimize costs and the carbon footprint by avoiding complex technology. The interior uses a bring-your-own-device approach where a smartphone acts as the infotainment screen. Other features include a Bluetooth speaker for audio, sliding windows, and loop-style door handles. The UK launch price is expected to be under £10 000.
