Cypherpunk Technologies launched a Zcash mining operation on August 18, 2026, following a $33.33 million equity-based acquisition of a mining fleet from entities affiliated with the Winklevoss twins. The transaction was settled through a pre-funded warrant for approximately 43.3 million shares of the company.

The mining fleet currently delivers 4.2 GSol/s, accounting for about 18% of the total Zcash network hashrate. The company aims to increase this share to 20% by late October 2026. Kevin Zhang has been appointed as the new Head of Mining to oversee the initiative.

The company holds 323,394 ZEC, representing approximately 1.92% of the circulating supply. Cypherpunk Technologies intends to increase its total holdings to 5% of the ZEC supply, utilizing both block rewards from its mining operations and open market purchases.

Proceeds from the mining operations are designated to fund further investments in privacy-preserving technologies. The company maintains that its focus on Zcash aligns with its core philosophy of supporting self-sovereignty and resistance to surveillance.
