A Reddit user known as DallasGrave modified a GeForce RTX 5090 graphics card by replacing the standard 16-pin 12V-2x6 power connector with four traditional 8-pin PCIe connectors. The modification involves a custom PCB soldered directly to the card's power pins to distribute the electrical load.

According to the developer, the setup results in a current of approximately 4.1–4.4 A per conductor at a 600 W power draw. The modification reportedly reduced operating temperatures by about 20 °C. Under an 800 W load, the custom board's temperature remained below 45 °C.

The design includes integrated fuses, with plans to add active monitoring and current limiting features. The developer is currently preparing further stress tests, including a 24-hour continuous load trial. Similar modifications have been previously explored by the TecLab team, who tested an RTX 5090 with three 8-pin connectors.

The developer intends to adapt this power delivery solution for various other graphics card models, including Founders Edition versions.
