A hardware enthusiast has developed a custom power distributor to address the issue of melting 16-pin connectors on Nvidia RTX 5090 graphics cards. The modification involves soldering additional connections directly to the card's PCB and routing them to an external distributor unit equipped with two female 8-pin connectors.

The custom distributor features a housing created via resin 3D printing. During a 48-hour stress test with the graphics card operating at a 550W load, the temperature at the connection point remained at 40 degrees Celsius. The design aims to mitigate high resistance and uneven current distribution associated with the standard 12VHPWR connector.

The developer claims a partnership with PNY to offer cards with similar modifications that include full warranty coverage. However, these modified units are not currently listed on the developer's website. The modification process is invasive as it requires direct soldering to the power rails of the graphics card.
