Venture capital investment in the crypto and blockchain sector reached approximately $21 billion year-to-date in 2026. This figure is comparable to the total funding of $21.1 billion to $21.9 billion recorded throughout 2025. In the first half of 2026, investors deployed $11.1 billion across 467 deals, with $12.86 billion recorded in the second quarter alone.
Investment focus has shifted toward stablecoins, payment infrastructure, and prediction markets. Notable deals include Polymarket, which reportedly raised $1 billion at a valuation of $21 billion, and its competitor Kalshi, which also secured over $1 billion in funding. The industry is seeing fewer deals but larger average check sizes compared to previous market cycles.
The current market environment, characterized by Bitcoin trading between $60 000 and $80 000, has not triggered the systemic collapses seen in 2022. While short liquidations exceeded $2.7 billion by August 2026, institutional investors remain active. They are reallocating capital toward infrastructure projects rather than exiting the asset class entirely.
The shift in funding patterns indicates a move away from speculative bets toward projects with durable use cases. Analysts suggest that the investor base has become more sophisticated, focusing on long-term infrastructure development. This trend reflects a maturation of the industry, as capital continues to flow despite a 50% decline in Bitcoin price from its October 2025 peak.
