The Cronos blockchain network, supported by Crypto.com, performed a rollback of its ledger to recover approximately $111.2 million linked to an exploit of the Tectonic lending protocol. The intervention required validators to halt the network for roughly nine hours on August 30.
The recovery process involved discarding 1 hour and 54 minutes of transaction history, which equated to 10,961 blocks. This action reversed all activity within that window, including legitimate user transactions that were unrelated to the security breach.
The attack occurred when hackers manipulated the price of the TONIC token on low-liquidity exchanges to borrow funds against inflated collateral. While the total borrowing activity reached $120.4 million, the network successfully reversed $111.2 million.
Despite the rollback, approximately $9.19 million in assets had already been moved off the network before validators intervened and remains unrecovered. Cronos developers noted that the decision to reverse transactions was made to protect roughly 92% of the affected funds.
