The Upper Tribunal has rejected an appeal by Crispin Odey, confirming a lifetime ban from the UK financial services industry. The ruling also upholds a fine of £1.8 million imposed by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA).

The FCA issued the prohibition order due to a lack of integrity, specifically citing Odey’s obstruction of an internal investigation at Odey Asset Management. The tribunal agreed that interfering with such inquiries constitutes a disqualifying act of bad faith.

The investigation into the firm documented at least 46 incidents of inappropriate behavior occurring over a 17-year period. These findings contributed to the collapse of the hedge fund, which ceased operations following a decline in investor confidence in 2023.

This decision establishes a precedent regarding the regulatory treatment of non-financial misconduct. The FCA maintains that obstructing oversight is sufficient grounds for a permanent career ban, regardless of an individual's professional history.
