CoreWeave, an AI cloud provider backed by Nvidia, is seeking to attract capital from life insurance companies to finance the expansion of its data centers and GPU infrastructure. Co-founder Brannin McBee stated that the company aims to leverage this capital to reach 8 GW of power capacity by 2030.
The strategy requires CoreWeave to secure investment-grade ratings for its chip-backed loans, as insurers typically prioritize safe assets. The company previously utilized a contract with Meta to secure an $8.5 billion loan in early 2026, demonstrating a model for attracting such institutional funding.
Financial pressure on the company is mounting. As of June 2026, CoreWeave reported approximately $52 billion in debt and lease obligations. On October 13, 2026, the yield on the company's 2032 bonds reached 15%, closing the day at 14.5%.
Market observers, including Chamath Palihapitiya and Elon Musk, have raised concerns regarding the sustainability of the AI infrastructure boom and the potential risks associated with the private credit market. The growth of private credit in the US reached $2.4 trillion by 2025.
