Electrek conducted a survey in April regarding the fuel price levels required to convince drivers of internal combustion engine vehicles to switch to electric cars. The study gathered over 2,800 responses from readers.
Nearly half of the participants stated that no price increase for gasoline or diesel would be sufficient to persuade the most dedicated opponents of electric vehicles to make the transition.
One respondent noted that in the Netherlands, current fuel costs reach $11,34 per gallon. In that region, electricity costs approximately $4,80 for an equivalent distance, yet many drivers still do not switch.
Some readers highlighted that the decision to switch depends on the long-term reliability of their current vehicles and expectations regarding future electricity rates, rather than just immediate fuel costs.
The publication suggests that the ability to generate electricity via home solar systems provides a hedge against rising utility costs, offering a stable energy price compared to fossil fuels.
