Constellation Energy has announced a plan to invest over $4.3 billion in the modernization of 11 nuclear reactors located across six plants in Illinois, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey. The project aims to increase the generating capacity of the PJM Interconnection grid by 890 MW.

The initiative is supported by long-term power purchase agreements with Google. The first additional power increments are expected to be available in 2028, with full capacity delivery scheduled for 2032. The deal includes a 20-year contract for new capacity and a 15-year agreement for 2,700 MW from the existing nuclear fleet.

Beyond energy supply, the partnership features a five-year technology collaboration between Constellation and Google, focusing on Google Cloud and Gemini Enterprise. The investment is projected to support 4,400 existing jobs and generate 7,200 temporary construction positions.

This agreement follows similar arrangements Constellation previously established with Microsoft and Amazon. The Amazon partnership alone has already initiated over $3 billion in plant upgrade investments, reflecting a broader trend of tech companies securing nuclear power for data centers.
