Coinbase remains listed in the official member directory of UK Finance, despite recent media reports suggesting the exchange had left the trade body. UK Finance represents over 300 financial services firms and influences British financial policy, though it does not hold regulatory authority over operating permissions.

The company obtained cryptoasset registration from the Financial Conduct Authority in early 2025. In July 2026, Coinbase secured an additional investment services authorisation, allowing the platform to facilitate trading in equities and derivatives alongside its core digital asset operations.

Coinbase has strengthened its political presence by appointing former Chancellor of the Exchequer George Osborne to its global advisory council. The firm is currently advocating for clearer regulatory frameworks regarding stablecoin payments and the development of tokenised assets.

The industry expects broader regulatory frameworks for digital assets to take effect around 2027. Coinbase continues to push for reliable access to banking services for crypto firms, a sector-wide challenge that has previously resulted in the loss of banking relationships for various exchanges.
