Coinbase has submitted registration notices to the SEC to introduce single stock perpetual futures in the United States. The filings were submitted on September 1 through the company's subsidiaries, Coinbase Derivatives and Coinbase Financial Markets.
The exchange announced the move on X on September 3 and now awaits approval from the CFTC. Following the news, Coinbase stock rose by approximately 10 percent. Perpetual futures allow traders to take leveraged positions on assets without owning them or dealing with expiration dates.
The company already offers similar products to international customers, which launched on March 20. These global contracts cover assets like Apple, Microsoft, and Nvidia, settle in USDC, and provide up to 10 times leverage.
For the US market, Coinbase has not yet specified which stocks will be available or what leverage limits will apply. The product requires joint approval from the SEC and CFTC, which regulates security futures in the country.
