Coinbase has officially renamed its self-custodial wallet back to Coinbase Wallet, ending a 14-month experiment that began in July 2025. The company previously rebranded the product as the Base App to integrate social features, including the Farcaster protocol, into an all-in-one platform.

The social strategy failed to gain significant user traction, leading to a pivot toward a trading-first experience in early 2026. During this period, the app added support for Ethereum, Solana, and BNB Chain, along with USDC rewards of up to 3.35% APY in certain regions.

Leadership changes accompanied the strategic shift. In July 2026, Jesse Pollak stepped down from daily management of Base to focus on the underlying chain infrastructure, with Jordan Fish, also known as Cobie, taking over the role.

The return to the original branding marks a move away from the social-focused vision. Coinbase now emphasizes the wallet's role as a self-custodial tool that complements its primary exchange services.
