Coinbase has officially rebranded its Base App back to Coinbase Wallet, concluding a one-year experiment that attempted to transform the platform into a social network. The transition follows a strategic pivot toward trading-focused features, which began in early 2026. Jesse Pollak, the creator of the Base blockchain, previously acknowledged the failure of the social-first strategy in July 2026.
The updated application now prioritizes leveraged trading, prediction markets, and tokenized stocks across more than 10 blockchain networks. Coinbase Wallet currently routes users to Hyperliquid for perpetual futures, which allow traders to bet on price movements using borrowed capital. The platform also supports trading for assets like tokenized stocks and meme coins, with recent additions including the Robinhood Chain and Monad networks.
CEO Brian Armstrong previously halted several social-focused experiments, including creator coins, citing poor performance. The company now intends to use the wallet to test products that are not yet available on its primary exchange. While perpetual futures remain restricted for users in the United States, the company has not disclosed specific fee structures or data regarding user growth following the rebranding.
